THE SIDEWAYS APPROACH

The octopus has always been a protective and healing creature; however, he was not always as good at solving problems as he is now. One day, when the octopus was hunting, he came across a crab. The crab, resourceful and clever, has always had a sideways or different approach to things, ever since the world broke apart. This made the crab rather difficult to catch, but the octopus, with his many arms, managed to capture the crab and prepare to eat it.

Being empathetic, the octopus apologized and tried to convince the crab that it should be happy that its life would sustain a much larger and infinitely more beautiful creature, and the crab would fulfill its destiny.

The crab attempted to strike a deal with the octopus. For its release, the crab would share its knowledge of his sideways approach to solving complex problems. The crab was well known for looking at things from a different perspective. The octopus was intrigued, but first he wanted to know if the crab was as clever as he claimed.

The crab said, "You are now questioning me, which means you can now reason, and if I live, I have proven that I can solve the most complex of problems, staying alive! The octopus agreed. So began a mutually beneficial lifetime partnership: the octopus a protector and the crab a teacher.
This is my story, which I believe to be the way and has not been told by others.

THE BEAR WITH THE RAVEN WATCHING HIS BACK

The Bear is considered a medicine being with impressive magical powers. Bears are symbols of strength and wisdom to many and also a traveling companion with you after death.  The bear is thoughtful and can be very independent, but  as I was creating this piece I felt we all need an ally, so the raven was created to help watch the bear's back and add  companionship. This the way I  believe it is, and the bear does give us the ability to be open minded and evolve.

THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

Stacks Image 57

Since always there has been a circle of life and the way of nature. We all have a part in this never ending way. We must always remind ourselves that there is always Victory  no matter where you are in the circle.  Sometimes the hunter will catch his prey and feed his family so the circle continues.  Sometimes the prey will escape and reproduce bringing more life to the circle.  These are all Victories . Everything in life is in the circle. We all have a part in this natural rhythm, the way that was before us and it will be the way after us.  Everything is alive and needs to be respected.

We must learn to understand the balance and respect all creatures

THE ORCA

This piece was commissioned as a tenth wedding anniversary gift. BTW, I didn’t know that a tenth is commemorated with a gift of aluminium! The spirit animal of the recipient is an orca, so, this is my interpretation of what was required.

My client was very happy in receiving the sculpture and the drawing from which it was created. If you have something special in mind, please contact me.

The Hawk is regarded as a guardian and protector. The symbol of strength and courage. Hawk can also be a messenger from angles. Many cultures in ancient times associated the Hawk with the soul. This Hawk will have the ability and skill to look 360° and up or down and protect your environment from enemies.
  • Brass has the meaning and properties of purifying negative energy. The energy of bright light and golden shine symbolizes the sun.
  • Amethyst is the roundedness, tranquility and calm and sometimes will help you feel peace of mind.

THE FROG BORN TO RAVENS

A long time ago, before the ravens became selfish, they wanted to help humans but also remain anonymous. Understanding the complexity of nature, they set out to put their idea into action. The ravens were mischievous in their ways but had much knowledge to pass on.

Knowing the frog could impart knowledge and wisdom with a touch of its tongue, the ravens set out to have a baby. It would appear to humans as a frog. This frog would be the most knowledgeable and have the raven's wisdom.

It would come to be that all the children could play with the baby frog and would receive the knowledge and foresight to grow from its kiss. The ravens would remain silent and wait, but delight in the good they had done.

Meanwhile, the fox would appear quietly and unexpectedly from time to time to make sure the humans would not lose their sense of awareness with their newly gained wisdom during these times of change.

This is my story, which I believe to be the way but has not been told by others.

Thinking that I  had made all pieces when...........

I was polishing the hawk face when I had an idea. The face is strong and shows no weakness or wear. This is how most of us want to appear; even our guardians. We want to show our strength and conceal our fears and weaknesses.

I think we forget where our strength comes from... overcoming difficult situations and learning from past experiences.

I thought the back of the face should show the history of time and wounds of  experiences survived. I hand hammered copper to represent these memories. This of course is not as smooth and polished as the face we show to the world.
